"Nia MAAT Khepera Born To Lead Academic Scholarship"
In honor of Nia Maat Khepera’s 50th Earthday, Nia created the Nia Maat Khepera “Born To Lead” academic scholarship. The inaugural year of the NMKB2LA scholarship was 2019. Nia announced her scholarship at her 50th Earthday party on February 23, 2019. The purpose of the
Nia Maat Khepera “Born To Lead” Academic Scholarship is to provide financial assistance to female college students who are leaders in their family, school, and community. It is also intended to help support HBCU’s and provide mentorship and inspiration to college young ladies. During its inaugural year, Nia awarded six scholarships totaling over $10,000, two of which were awarded to her sons, Mene Ra II and Jabari (legacy recipients). Three of the first year recipients were Nia’s former middle school students when she served as either their teacher, dean, or principal at Texas’ largest African-American charter school. In year two (2020), Nia awarded six young ladies with her scholarship and awarded over $15,000.
